Truly every author should know the answer to the question, What is your writing goal? It sounds so simple but for most of us it really isn’t. Take a few minutes and write down some reason why you are writing your current work-in-progress (WIP). Think of nothing else for now. Just a simple one or two sentence response will do. It really doesn’t matter what your reasons are for writing this particular story only that you have some kind of goal once it is completed.

Should Have At Least 1 or 2 Goals For Each WIP

Our brains are hardwired into getting what we want. If you can come up with at least 2 or 3 goals for your book it just may allow your brain to create ideas on how to accomplish those goals. While your creative mind is busy writing the story your logical part is working to find ways for you to accomplish your goals.

Writing down those goals and reading them out every day helps you brain set up those ideas and figure out a way to solve the problem. Yes, every single person (with a few rare exceptions) has a logical side that does nothing more than solve problems. Help it out by determining what your true hope and dream is for your current WIP. Once that is accomplished you can expand that out to what writing goals you have for the year and finally, what you envision for yourself as a published author in 5 to 10 years from now.
